Records and an old liquer bottle

(download)

Found myself in a St. Augustine antique shop with Ashley, and actually came away with some neat stuff.

Along with some old-ish (70s and 80s) records, I found a great pre-screwtop Cointreau bottle. I haven't determined the age of the bottle yet, but I'll update when I do.

The records:

* Billy Joel - Greatest Hits Volume I & Volume II
* Animal House soundtrack
* Eddie Murphy (comedy and music)
* Genesis - Invisible Touch
* Depeche Mode - Some Great Reward
* Billy Joel - Glass Houses

I'm particularly excited about Some Great Reward and Billy Joel's Greatest Hits!

Too many books to read, so little time.

What with the Cyber Monday deals the other day, I snagged a bunch of ebooks from O'Reilly:

This should give me plenty to read over the upcoming holidays. I've already started in on the books on Sinatra and Erlang web services--so far so good! Reviews forthcoming once I'm finished.

Think Stats was an unusual choice for me, but I thought it an opportunity to learn more about Python and statistics. It's intended as an introduction to probability and statistics for Python programmers, using short exercises to illustrate those concepts. Not the way I learned stats in college.

Hello, Posterous!

I'm migrating my blog here from its previous home on Github Pages, powered by Jekyll. It was a good run, and I especially enjoyed using Git/GitHub, Markdown and Vim to do my bloggin'. I've decided to move on for the time being.

Posterous has some great features (not much beyond what I need), and it's a solid platform. I also feel that the convenience and mixed-media blogging aspects of Posterous will encourage me to update more frequently.

Hope you enjoy it. For now, here's an otter getting excited about using Posterous:

Joining Hashrocket

I'm excited to say that I recently joined Hashrocket as an apprentice. They're taking me under their wing and showing me the Hashrocket Way to write web applications with Ruby on Rails.

Over the coming months, I should be posting here to share what I'm learning and the goods times that are had along the way.

I'm very pleased to spend time with some of the best Rails developers in the world, and soak up as much as I can by pair programming with them! Thanks to everyone at Hashrocket, in Jacksonville and elsewhere, for making me feel welcome and like a part of the family.
